ENGINE
Mazda L8-VE 1.8L Engine is a dependable member of Mazda’s L-series family, designed to deliver a smooth balance of efficiency, performance, and longevity. Found in vehicles such as the Mazda 3 (BK/BL) and Mazda 5 (Premacy), this engine is known for its refined operation, responsive throttle, and low emissions—qualities that have made it a favourite among Mazda enthusiasts and daily drivers alike.

The Mazda L8-VE 1.8L Engine features a 1.8-litre (1798 cc) inline-four DOHC 16-valve configuration with an aluminium alloy block and cylinder head, keeping weight low and heat dissipation efficient. It utilizes Sequential Valve Timing (S-VT) on the intake camshaft for improved torque and fuel economy across the rev range. This engine produces approximately 125 hp (93 kW) @ 6000 rpm and 165 Nm of torque @ 4500 rpm, offering a lively yet fuel-conscious drive suitable for both urban and highway conditions.
Cooling is managed through a water-cooled system, while oil capacity sits at approximately 4.3 litres (recommended oil: 5W-30). The L8-VE’s dry weight is around 130–140 kg, keeping it compact and suitable for front-wheel-drive layouts common in Mazda sedans and compacts.
The Mazda L8-VE is known for its strong reliability record, but like any internal combustion engine, it can develop issues if neglected. One of the most common complaints is oil consumption at higher mileage, typically due to carbon buildup on piston rings or worn valve stem seals. Regular oil changes using fully synthetic oil can prevent most of these issues.
Another area to monitor is the timing chain tensioner—rattling noises during startup may indicate wear or low oil pressure. Coil pack failures and carbon buildup on the intake valves (especially on engines run with poor fuel quality) are also reported but can be resolved through regular servicing and fuel system cleaning.
Routine maintenance such as oil changes every 10,000 km, coolant flushes every 60,000 km, and spark plug replacement every 100,000 km keeps the
Mazda L8-VE 1.8L Engine performing optimally. When maintained properly, this engine can easily exceed 300,000 km, offering exceptional longevity and dependable performance. Each engine we supply is inspected, compression-tested, and imported directly to our warehouse, guaranteeing high quality and long-term reliability.
