Description

Mazda Skyactiv-G 2.0L Engine
Innovation, Efficiency, and Reliability.

Mazda Skyactiv-G 2.0L engine represents one of the most advanced petrol powerplants in the automotive world, combining exceptional fuel economy with responsive performance. Introduced as part of Mazda’s revolutionary Skyactiv technology suite, this engine powers models such as the Mazda 3, Mazda CX-30, Mazda 6, and Mazda CX-5, earning global recognition for its refined engineering and long-term durability.

Mazda Skyactiv-G 2.0L engine

The Skyactiv-G 2.0L engine (engine codes PE-VPS or PE-VPR) features a 1,998 cc inline-four DOHC 16-valve configuration, utilizing an all-aluminium block and head for lightweight strength and heat efficiency. It produces around 118–165 hp (88–121 kW) @ 6000 rpm and 210 Nm of torque @ 4000 rpm, depending on the model and market calibration. A defining characteristic of this engine is its exceptionally high 13.0:1 compression ratio (some regions 14.0:1), achieved through precise combustion control and advanced knock suppression technology.

With an oil capacity of approximately 4.2 litres (recommended 0W-20) and a water-cooled system maintaining ideal operating temperatures, the  2.0L engine is engineered for long service life and low running costs. Its dry weight averages around 130–140 kg, making it compact and ideal for front-wheel-drive configurations.

Common Weaknesses & Maintenance Notes.

The Mazda Skyactiv-G 2.0L engine is widely regarded for its reliability and low failure rate, but several maintenance points are worth noting. Over time, some owners report carbon buildup on intake valves due to direct injection—this can be minimized with regular use of top-tier fuel and periodic intake cleaning.

Another common issue is engine oil consumption, particularly in higher-mileage units or those run on low-quality oil. Using Mazda’s recommended fully synthetic oil and moreover maintaining proper service intervals (every 10,000–12,000 km) greatly reduces this risk. Additionally, timing chain tensioner noise at startup can indicate the need for inspection or replacement.

Routine maintenance—such as timely oil changes, coolant flushes, and air filter replacements—ensures this engine continues to deliver the fuel efficiency, responsiveness, and smoothness it’s famous for. With proper care, the Mazda Skyactiv-G 2.0L engine can easily surpass 300,000 km while maintaining peak performance. Each engine we supply is inspected, compression-tested, and imported directly to our warehouse, guaranteeing high quality and long-term reliability.
