Description

Nissan SR20VET Engine

Nissan SR20VET engine is one of Nissan’s most advanced and sought-after JDM power units, combining the proven durability of the SR series with the cutting-edge performance of VVL (Variable Valve Lift and Timing) and turbocharging technology.

With a displacement of 1,998 cc, this inline 4-cylinder DOHC 16-valve engine delivers up to 276 horsepower (206 kW) at 6,400 rpm and 315 Nm (232 lb-ft) of torque at 3,200 rpm, offering instant acceleration, strong mid-range power, and exceptional reliability.

Specifications & Description.

Originally fitted in the Nissan X-Trail GT (T30) — the only factory turbocharged SR20 with VVL  the SR20VET was engineered for high performance and efficiency.

It features a Garrett T28 turbocharger, forged crankshaft, and reinforced pistons and connecting rods, allowing it to handle boost pressure with ease.

The Nissan SR20VET 2.0L Turbocharged engine, VVL system adjusts cam lift and timing for optimized performance across all RPM ranges, while the intercooled turbo setup ensures cool, dense air for efficient combustion.

Built with an aluminum alloy cylinder head and cast-iron block, the SR20VET offers a perfect balance of lightweight strength and long-term durability.

Its electronic fuel injection (EFI) system and coil-on-plug ignition deliver precise control and clean emissions. Each SR20VET engine in our stock is hand-selected and imported directly from Japan, sourced from running donor vehicles with approximately 50,000–60,000 km.

Every unit is compression-tested, inspected, and verified to ensure there are no cracks, leaks, or damage to the head or block — ready for installation in swaps or rebuilds.

Common Weaknesses & Maintenance Notes

The SR20VET is known for its exceptional reliability under boost when maintained correctly.

The most common issues include oil starvation under extreme loads or turbo wear due to poor oiling. Regular oil changes (5W-40 synthetic recommended), turbo cooldowns, and proper intercooling are essential for preserving performance.

Routine inspection of the VVL solenoids and vacuum lines helps maintain smooth variable lift operation.
